Weekend Workshops
Sue teaches an exciting new pattern called Bargello Pinwheel on Saturday, September 10—or you could make any of the other bargello patterns available in the shop.  Or grab one of the dozens of colorways of Sue’s Color Splash bundles!
Sue O’Dea will teach a very attractive and useful Ruler and Mat Bag on Saturday, September 24.
Fandance is a scrap-happy pattern inspired by a photo in a magazine.  But Sue invented a new, quilter-friendly technique and will teach her secret method on Saturday, October 1.
Carolyn teaches Machine Quilting I—Straight Line Quilting on Sunday, October 2 and Machine Quilting II—Free Motion & Advanced Designs on Sunday, October 30.

Carolyn teaches a new, very precise appliqué technique to make a November Pumpkin tablerunner on Saturday, October 8.
Deb teaches a new technique for curvy piecing to make a Mini Pumpkin Wallhanging on Saturday, October 22.
Sue teaches a fun pattern called Stormy Trip on Saturday, October 29.  Sue’s sample has been quilted but still needs a binding.  Here is a photo of the pattern.
Deb returns on Saturday, November 5 to teach Spring Flowers.  Her sample is almost done and we will post a photo when it is done because the black and gray photo from the pattern does not even hint at how pretty this fun project can be.
Sue will teach a delightful giraffe wallhanging or crib quilt called Lanky Patch on Saturday, November 6.
Carolyn teaches Tumbling Triangles in any of six sizes on Saturday, November 26.
Sue wraps up the classes on Saturday, December 3 teaching another new technique, quilt-as-you-go Piece by Number Placemats.

2016 Winter Classes

Good-Bye Fall & Hello Winter 2016!
Country Treasures is gearing up for Winter 2016 with many new classes and demonstrations of innovative techniques. Sue has been busy making samples and quilts for sale after a lovely Foliage Season in Chester. We have many new exciting kits available, including Blocks of the Month, packaged for easy completion. Some of these kits include Storytellers designed by Denise Lipscomb for Windham Fabrics, Vintage Sampler designed by Barbara Eikmeier for Paintbrush Studios/Fabri-Quilt, Jewels of the Universe by Jason Yenter for In the Beginning, and Tonga Gemstones designed by A Wing and a Prayer for Timeless Treasures. Carolyn has been ecstatic over the new book called Farm Girl Vintage. She will host a series of Sunday classes to create the beautiful and whimsical Farm Girl Sampler Quilt. Join the Sunday afternoon fun for plenty of quilt fellowship to warm you up during this wintery season! Sue O’Dea will be teaching a wonderful technique to make a very useful ruler bag during a Saturday all-day workshop.

Our staff is hard at work again creating a second trunk show based on the new book Animal Parade 2, hot off the presses. In case you missed out last year, the first Animal Parade book by Cheri Leffler was a hit seller. We still have many of the staff samples on display and some kits available. Our sample quilts for Animal Parade 2 will be ready for display in time for the Vermont Shop Hop in March. Come and view the quilts during and after Shop Hopping.

Please note that we start our schedule early in January to allow for the occasional “Snow Day.” In the event of a weather cancellation, make-up days may extend the schedule beyond that described in this newsletter.

SAVE A TREE! If you have an email address, we would like to be able to make this newsletter available to you through your email. Please send us an email at sue@vermontquilting.com and we will make the switch.

Kindred Spirits Club
We are very excited to announce that we are taking part in a new reproduction fabric and pattern club called Kindred Spirits. We have the complete line of fabrics designed by Jill Shaulis for Windham Fabrics and patterns from Yellow Creek Quilt Designs. The fabric collection is inspired by Civil War era fabrics in a rich, classic color scheme of brick, gold, Cadet blue, green and brown. The first set of six patterns are Pinwheel Puzzle, Two-Way Street, Chasing Friends, Star Pillow, Flower Baskets, and Split Decision. These patterns are available to club members only.

It is easy to join the Kindred Spirits Club—simply call the shop at 802-875-4377 to sign up. There is a one-time fee of $42.00 for this six-month program, which includes all six patterns with free shipping. Each month we will mail you the pattern of the month, free shipping. We will share tips on these fun projects and kits will be prepared to include bindings and backings. Purchase of the kits is optional. Each month a Country Treasures staff member will complete a sample of their favorite Kindred Spirits project. The club begins in January with the Pinwheel Puzzle. After the six months of patterns we will announce a date in July for Show + Tell for all members to display their projects with a drawing for a prize. Please join us for monthly fun!

Weekly Quilt Classes for Winter 2016

Farm Girl Vintage (6 weeks).................................................................. $42.00
Starting: Sunday, January 3th, 1 – 4:00pm
Instructor: Carolyn Niesuchouski
Join Carolyn for a series of Sunday afternoon classes (Jan. 3, 10, 17 & 31, Feb. 7 & 14) to create 48 blocks for a Farm Girl Sampler Quilt. The blocks will be divided into easy sections and worked on during class and as homework. Each class will be full of hints & tips! All quilters are welcome, beginner to advanced. What a great way to put your scraps to good use but if you don’t have sampler-worthy scraps (or if you prefer a more organized color palette) we would be happy to suggest a bundle. Make as many blocks as you want for smaller size projects. Forty-eight 6 ½” blocks make a 62” x 76” quilt. The same number of 12” blocks, without borders, will make an 87” x 114” quilt.

All Level Quilting (6 weeks).................................................................... $42.00
Starting: Tuesday, January 5th, 6:30pm – 9:00pm
Instructor: Sue Ashe

Accurate cutting and piecing techniques will be taught stress free to new beginners in quilting as well as basic quilting and binding techniques to finish your quilt. Advanced beginners will move on to paper piecing, hexagons, and other exciting new techniques and projects. All projects may be made smaller or larger as desired. All quilters are welcome, beginner to advanced.

Quilts of Valor (6 weeks, come for one session, or all).............................. Priceless!!
Starting: Friday, January 8th, 9:30am – Noon
Instructor: Sue Ashe
If you don’t want to sew alone at home, come join the group to work on a Quilt of Valor. There is nothing I like better than working on Quilts of Valor. It is such a good feeling knowing that one of our Vermont Veteran recipients will cherish the quilt. We need quilters to cut fabric, iron, sew, bind, and/or attach labels. Bring your own fabric or work on one of the many kits I will have ready. All quilts made will be donated to veterans from Vermont. I appreciate any and all help! Please sign up in advance to ensure everyone has a seat! All quilters are welcome, beginner to advanced. We will meet on Friday mornings—come for one session, or all.

Instructor: Carolyn Niesuchouski
A great beginner class for anyone who wants to learn machine quilting. Each student will learn the skills of pre-basting, needles, threads, bobbins and linear quilting in- and out-of-the-ditch. Stress free! Students should piece a project before class or we have some table runner suggestions.

Little Gems (12” square)....................................................................... $40.00
Saturday, January 30th, 9:30 am – 3:30 pm
Instructor: Sue Ashe
Jump in to the world of paper piecing or improve your skills. Little Gems, a set of miniature quilts, demonstrates what an amazing project you can make from a small amount of scraps. Trust us, they are like potato chips—who can stop with one!  But these Little Gems are definitely lo-cal.  The 15 patterns in this book make paper pieced quilts that are each 12” square. I have 14 done and just one to go to finish the complete set. Talk about instant gratification! All quilters are welcome, beginner to advanced.

Blue Lagoon (62” square)..................................................................... $40.00
Saturday, February 6th, 9:30 am – 3:30 pm
Instructor: Sue Ashe
What? You have never made a log cabin before? Here’s your chance! This quilt is a beautiful combination of log cabin and four-patch blocks. Add a sprinkling of appliqué. I will demonstrate machine appliqué in class. The quilt is designed by Kay & Allison of Vermont Quilt Design. Suitable for all levels of quilters, but not recommended for first-time quilters.

Jewels of the Universe (97” x 110”)...................................................... $40.00
Saturday, February 20th, 9:30 am – 3:30 pm
Instructor: Sue Ashe
Explore the Jewels of the Universe quilt! The instructions for making this quilt are divided into six chapters. During class I will familiarize you with how the directions are set up so that you will be comfortable working at home to finish your very own Jewel. All the piecing is very simple so that all levels of quilters will enjoy piecing this quilt. We have kits made in both the Blue and the Black colorways. Stars are the limit! Suitable for all levels of quilters, but not recommended for first-time quilters.

Machine Quilting II-Free-Motion Quilting & Advanced Designs....... $30.00
Sunday, February 21st, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Instructor: Carolyn Niesuchouski
This class will concentrate on “free motion” quilting. Students will drop their feed dogs and meander, developing new skills to do different simple patterns in their quilting piece. It is helpful that the student has taken Machine Quilting I or have some machine quilting experience before taking this class. Advanced Designs will be added for those students who may have previously taken Machine Quilting I & II.

Fabric Bowls........................................................................................... $30.00
Saturday, February 27th, 1:00– 4:00 pm
Instructor: Carolyn Niesuchouski
Everyone who has taken this class leaves with a lot of great ideas for gift giving! This is a great fun class using clothesline and fabric strips to create a simple bowl and many other projects. The class is easy and quilting experience is not required. The student must have a sewing machine with a zig-zag stitch to complete this project!

***KITS ARE AVAILABLE FOR MOST CLASSES***

Please let us know at least one week in advance of your class if you would like a kit made.

Fall Classes
It is hard to believe our first Fall Class starts in a little over two weeks.  Look for the link for the Fall Newsletter on our homepage at www.vermontquilting.com.  Photos of the class projects can be found on our blog.  But if a class catches your fancy and the day is not convenient for your schedule, please give us a call at 802-875-4377.  Sue or Carolyn may be able to place in a class on a different date that suits your schedule.

2015 Row by Row Experience
Don’t forget the Row by Row Experience goes into hibernation after Sept. 8 and you have until October 31, 2015 to submit your quilt for a prize.  Although some other Vermont shops have already awarded their prizes we still have not had a winner.  Both our Sea-Glass kits and our Maple Quilter license plate are back in stock.  However, the rules will prevent us from selling the kit after Sept. 8 until Nov. 1.
